Introduction
AURA by Hu. is a portable bluetooth speaker that features a unique audio-based light visualiser. Built for the ever-connected world of smart IoT devices. AURA was re-envisioned to enrich the surround sound experience. Hence, some of AURA’s feature include an innovative 360-degree dial and touch-sensitive display for users with a new way to enjoy their favourite music, while our large battery and compact form factor empower users to play music for hours on end. Based on Googles smart home API, when users link their Google and Hu. accounts, AURA is added to the user’s smart home and enables seamless autonomous light transitions.

Design Process
Rapid Iteration, Market Analysis, IP Documentation
Following from the previous project I completed in 2019, AURA underwent rapid iteration as we began exploring different physical forms to increase its already unique form. This was in combination with extensive research consisting of a market analysis and IP documentation to ensure AURA’s individuality. We wanted to push the boundaries of current Bluetooth speakers and introduce new and unique interactions methods that would help establish our Hu. Company. Overall, the design process was a mix of analogue and digital mediums to rapidly iterate forms and explore different part details; initial sketches, decals, 3D models, business cards and the final exterior design.

Refining and Packaging
We wanted Hu. to be a human-centered brand that is user first. We value honesty and have an appreciation for emotion in design. Our slogan, design made for you, was exemplified through our packaging design with a clear casing to highlight the material. The X-ray decals of the internals are stencilled across each face to superimpose the internal structure of our device. Our design direction mood board from MIRO was used to keep our project on track.
